Lesson 03: Introduction to Hadees

i. Literal Meaning:

Literal meanings of hadees are to talk, to address, to do gossip and chat etc.

ii. Technical Meaning:

The sayings, actions and speeches of the Holy Prophet are called ahadees.

iii. Kinds of Hadees:

There are three following kinds of hadees:

(i) Hadees Qauli (ii) Hadees Faili (iii) Hadees Taqriri

Hadees Qauli:All those ahadees in which Holy Prophet commanded to do or forbid from doing something are called hadees Qauli. He said:

Translation: Offer prayer in that manner, as you see me offering.

Hadees faili:

It means that hadees in which there is talk about Holy Prophet's deeds/ actions. For instance, "Holy Prophet used to do this and would stop from doing this." In such hadees, his act of prayer is included. It means a companion of the holy prophet says that the Holy Prophet would offer prayer in that way.

Hadees Taqriri:

That act which was done in front of the Holy Prophet and he did not forbid from doing that but remained silent. It is called hadees Taqriri: For instance, Hazrat Amr Bin Al Aas didn't use water due to disease and offered prayer after performing -Tayamum. When Holy Prophet knew about it, he didn't stop him from this act.

iv. Religious Status of Hadees:

What is status of hadees in religion? It is important to know the following traits of the Holy Prophet, which have been described in the holy Quran with detail.

v. As a Role Model:

In his life, there is the best pattern for every Muslim.

Translation: There has certainly, been for you in the messenger of Allah an excellent pattern for anyone whose hope is in Allah and the last day and (who) remembers Allah often:

vi. Obedience of Prophet:

His obedience is obligatory on everyone.

Translation: So believe in Allah and his messenger, the unlettered Prophet.. who believes in Allah and his words.

vii. Commandment of Prophet:

Whatever Holy Prophet grants, its important to take that and whatever he stops from, it is must to avoid that:

وَمَا الكُمُ الرَّسُولُ فَخُذُوهُ وَمَا نَهَكُمْ عَنْهُ فَانْتَهُوات (الث : 7 )

Translation: And whatever the messenger has given you take, and what he has forbidden you-refrain from.

viii. Order to believers:

His obedience is must for all Muslims."

Translation: O you who have believed obey Allah and obey the messenger.

ix. Source of Righteousness:

Getting right path is dependent on obedience of Holy Prophet

Translation: If you obey him, you will be (rightly) guided.

It is known from above verses, .that all instructions given to ummah by Hazrat Muhammad, whatever he said in educating on Book and wisdom, whatever he regarded as haram and halal, whatever he decided in cases of justice all that has status of deen and shariah. Instead, his whole life is the best model for ummah and we have been commanded to obey and follow his life. His obedience is obligatory on every follower whatever he commanded, that should be done and what he stopped from, should be avoided by every true believer. In brief, his obedience is in reality the obedience of Allah. As, it is mentioned in the Holy Quran:

مَنْ يُطِعِ الرَّسُولَ فَقَدْ أَطَاعَ الله (السن ).

Translation: He who obeys the messenger, has obeyed-Allah.

As it is mandatory to listen and obey Allah's commandment. In the same manner, it is binding and ultimate to obey the Holy Prophet. It is apparent that details of other commandments are given in the Holy Quran but their interpretation, detail of their parts and their practical form is impossible to know without looking at saying, deeds, and life of the Holy Prophet
